“Sit Down Russell Westbrook!”: When Jimmy Fallon Gave the 2017 MVP a Beatdown in ‘NBA Jam’

Russell Westbrook was drafted into the NBA in 2008 by the Seattle Supersonics. Since then, the franchise moved to Oklahoma City, where Russ played till 2019. From there, Russ played one season with James Harden in Houston, then a season in Washington with Bradley Beal. Over the last season and a half, Russ has been in Los Angeles as a Laker.

Playing his 15th season in the NBA, Westbrook is known for the way he plays the game and his efforts on the court. For the longest time, there was no player in the NBA who was known to play as hard as Russ.

In 2017, he won the NBA MVP honors after averaging a triple-double for the entire season. He achieved the stats three years in a row. His time in LA, though could have been predicted with a game of NBA Jam he played with Jimmy Fallon back in 2017.

Russell Westbrook lost 13-10 to Jimmy Fallon at NBA Jam

In the summer of 2017, Russell Westbrook was going out and about to promote his new book Style Drivers. It is a book that talks about Russ and his association with fashion and how he expresses himself through the same.

To promote the same, he went on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. There, Russ talked about his book, being a father, his partnership with Paul George, and more. The best part of the show, however, was when Jimmy and Russ faced off in a heated game of NBA Jam.

NBA Jam is a popular game based on the NBA, which was initially released in 1993. Fallon took Larry Bird as his character and added Kevin Garnett as his teammate. On the other hand, Russ played as himself and took the Thunder mascot, Rumble, as his teammate.

After what seemed like forever(2 minutes), Russ was down 3 points and was in the middle of an attempt when the time ran out. Fallon won the game 13-10.

I guess the MVP can’t win them all.

How is Russ fairing in LA?

After a miserable initial season, the 2017 MVP has been doing much better in his 2nd year with the Purple and Gold. With Darvin Ham calling the shots, Russ has been moved to the bench, and he’s been doing really well.

So far this season, Brodie is averaging 14.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists, and has been providing a huge spark off the bench. However, till the team doesn’t figure out how to play winning basketball, all his contributions would be a waste.
