The day when Ashwin shivered during the 2011 World Cup
In a recent interview, veteran Indian off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin revealed the day when he was shaking in a match against Australia in the World Cup.
It was the 2011 World Cup and India was going great guns. However, spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had not played too many games in the last match of the league stage. He was given a chance in his home ground at Chennai. The next game was a big one against Australia. It was the quarter final and a must win game for India to move to the semis.
In a recent interview with Vikram Sathaye on his show ‘What the duck season 3’, Ashwin revealed that he was told by MS Dhoni that he would be bowling the first over. It was the national anthem playing when it suddenly hit Ashwin that he was actually part of the World Cup playing team and he went blank for a moment.

As soon as the Anthem got over Australia had to bat first and Ashwin was given the first over. He stood there with the ball in his hand at the top of his mark and suddenly realised that his hands were shaking. He said that this looks like some ‘new phenomena’.
Soon Watson hit a lofted straight drive which gave a good chance of caught and bowled to Ashwin. However, because of the anxiety Ashwin’s hands were shivering and he could not hold on to the ball. However, it all evened out at the end as Ashwin was finally able to dismiss Shane Watson.
The veteran off spinner missed the 2017 season of the IPL due to injury. He made a comeback to the league this year and was straight away named the Captain of the Kings XI Punjab side.
