Sydney Cricket Ground is currently hosting the 3rd test of the 3-match series between Australia and South Africa. The new year’s tests in Sydney have always been hampered by rain, and the same has been the case in this match as well as most of the game has been washed out.

Day three of the match was a complete washout, but a better forecast was predicted on the last two days. However, the fourth day’s start also got delayed due to rain, and Australia declared their innings for 475-4, Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith played vital roles in Australia’s total.

South Africa’s batting again struggled, and they were 121-4 till the time of publishing this article. The top-order failed again, and it has been the story of the series so far. Although, the Australian bowlers will have to do something special in order to get a result out of this one.

Usman Khawaja missed out on his maiden test double-century as Australian captain Pat Cummins declared the innings overnight. Khawaja was on 195*, but this match has been hampered by rain, and to get the result, Australia decided to take the bold approach and sacrificed Khawaja’s double-century.

Interestingly, after day three of the Sydney test, Khawaja jokingly said that it will be very harsh on him if Cummins declares the innings. He expressed his wish to get a few overs so that he can score some quick runs and complete his double-century on a ground he loves to bat on.

“I think it’d be pretty harsh if he (skipper Pat Cummins declared) straight away, I don’t think that’s going to happen. We could go out there and get a few more runs really quickly or we could declare pretty much straight away,” Khawaja told reporters after Day 3.

Khawaja has loved playing at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He made his return to the Australian team in the last Ashes in Sydney only, where he scored a hundred in both innings. He has not stopped since then and has been one of Australia’s most important test batters.
