“Why did you have to bring that up?”: Shane Warne once got mad at Mark Nicholas after David Warner became a victim of his commentator’s curse while batting on 97
Shane Warne was a magical leg-spinner, and after his retirement, he entertained the audience with his commentary stints. It was said that Warne was one of the best readers of the game, and he proved that every time when he picked up the microphone in his hand.
Warne passed away last year due to a suspected heart attack. He was doing commentary for Fox Cricket, and it is interesting that David Warner has also announced that he will be joining the Fox Cricket commentary panel soon.
“Commentary Curse” is something that we have heard quite a lot. One such incident happened during the first test between Australia and South Africa in 2016 at Perth’s WACA Stadium. South Africa scored 242 runs in the 1st innings, and Australia had a brilliant start, but then Warner got out, and things went downhill for Australia.
Shane Warne once got mad at Mark Nicholas for David Warner’s dismissal
Shane Warne and Mark Nicholas were doing the commentary duties when Warner was on 97 runs. Suddenly, Nicholas came up with the fact that Warner never got out in his 90s, and Warne was absolutely mad at Nicholas for spitting that fact. Warne told Nicholas what was the need to bring that stat in between
Mark Nicholas: “He moves to 97. Never been out in the 90s.”
Shane Warne: “Mark, sorry, what did you just say then? You say he never been out in the 90s.”
Mark Nicholas: “In a Test match he has never been out in the 90s.”
Shane Warne: “Oh, no. Never been out in the 90s, why did you have to bring that up?”
One of the funniest bits of commentary when Nicholas and Shane Warne jinx David Warner, out in the 90s.
>>Nicholas: Warner has never been out in 90s in Tests>>Warne: Oh no! What did you just say

To everyone’s surprise, the ‘commentator curse’ worked, and Warner got out on the very next ball by scoring 97 runs. After the dismissal, Warne jumped off his seat while Nicholas was narrating the dismissal on air with a terrible look on his face.
Australia lost the test by 177 runs at the end, where they could not chase the target set by South Africa. South African pacer Kagiso Rabada was named the Man of the Match for scalping 7 wickets in the match.
