Dottin cricket player: What happened to Deandra Dottin? Is she injured before WPL 2023?

West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin became the first cricketer to have been ruled out of the inaugural season of Women’s Premier League. It was on the eve of the tournament opener between Gujarat Giants Women and Mumbai Indians Women in Mumbai that Giants had named a replacement player via a tweet.

Dottin, who hasn’t played international cricket since Commonwealth Games Women’s Cricket Competition 2022 in England, had last played any format of the sport for Adelaide Strikers Women in Women’s Big Bash League 2022.

Having registered herself in the highest price category of INR 50 lakh for the auction, Dottin was bought by Gujarat for INR 60 lakh after Delhi Capitals Women expressed an initial one-bid interest.

What happened to Deandra Dottin?

According to ESPNcricinfo, Dottin missed out on taking part in a historic tournament because she is “recovering from a medical situation”. Dottin, however, has not only become the first player to have been ruled out of the WPL but also become an unintentional part of the first-ever controversy of the tournament.

Dottin, 31, took to social media platforms Twitter and Instagram to question GG’s move around allegedly replacing her without her knowing the nature of her own injury. The development has led to a massive confusion merely a handful of hours before WPL 2023 Match 1 tonight. The franchise is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

Who is Kim Garth?

Australia all-rounder Kimberley Garth has replaced Dottin at Giants for WPL 2023. Garth, 26, is a like-for-like replacement for the West Indian cricketer. Third-youngest player to debut in Women’s ODIs and youngest in Women’s T20Is at the time, Garth has since qualified to play for Australia on the back of a three-year break from international cricket between 2019-2022.

Although her career with the Australian cricket team is at a very nascent stage at the moment, she was part of their title-winning ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad last month.
