“FIA Boss” Fernando Alonso Once Threatened Arch Rival Lewis Hamilton With “Maximum Penalty”
Apart from having a stern rivalry in the 2007 F1 championship with McLaren, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso rarely crossed swords. However, there was one occasion when the Spanish driver or the “FIA Boss” threatened to punish the Briton with a “maximum penalty”
Speaking at a press conference, Alonso once revealed his future prospects in F1. This was the time when the Asturian was in McLaren, overshadowed by the British driver in Mercedes.
As the press conference was going on, the 41-year-old stated, “I love Formula 1, I will always love Formula 1. So if I’ll be here in the future, as a driver, as a father as a FIA boss, or whatever, I will think.”
Hearing this, the British driver freaked out and giggled to say, “Not the FIA boss.” He then added, “At least when I retire.” Hearing this, the Asturian conveyed, “Maximum penalty.”
Hamilton and Alonso crossing swords again in 2023
After so many seasons, Alonso and Hamilton made it to the podium together for the first time. Even though they did it back in 2021, it’s entirely different this time.
This is because the two veterans now race for the team that can challenge one another outright. Similar to their McLaren days or Mercedes versus Ferrari days, but this won’t be useful for all fights.

As Aston Martin made a significant improvement in their performance this season, they are currently at par with the German giants. This made the battle between the oldest drivers of the sport even more enjoyable, as seen in the recently concluded Australian Grand Prix.
Currently, Alonso occupies P3 in the driver’s standings with 45 points, whereas Hamilton is a place behind in P4 with 38 points.
Alonso wants Hamilton to join him
With few more seasons to go, it is believed that both the veterans will bid goodbye to the sport. As their departure comes closer, Alonso recently revealed that he would love to have Hamilton beside him.
Speaking to Daily Mail, the two-time world champion conveyed that it would be “great” to have his former teammate alongside him after spending over a decade in the sport.
For the Briton, this might be special as he debuted in Formula 1 beside Fernando Alonso in 2007. With Hamilton’s contract still to get finalized, it’ll be interesting to see if this capitalizes.
