Tyrique Stevenson NFL Draft: 40-Yard Time & Other Combine Stats
Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft is underway, and the excitement has not gone down at all. Even after the famous names have been called out and picked, fans are still eager to see which of the remaining rookies will be fortunate to join an NFL team. One athlete no longer left in that pool, is Miami Hurricanes’ cornerback Tyrique Stevenson. Stevenson was picked by the Chicago Bears using the #56 pick.
Stevenson is the third defensive player the Bears have picked this year, as he joins rookie DTs Gervon Dexter and Zacch Pickens in Chicago. Judging by their picks, it seems the Bears are bringing in some top players to help improve their defense. Which makes sense, given their poor showing last season. At least now, they’ll be hopeful about not finishing dead last in the league.
Tyrique Stevenson did well during the combine to see himself through
The Hurricanes’ CB put up a show in his senior season for the Hurricanes, often scaring QBs into avoiding throwing his way. When a QB did pass his way, he made sure they knew what the end result would be. He ended 2022 with 2 interceptions, and 7 pass deflections, both career highs. He even managed to record 1.5 tackles for loss, showing his versatile nature on the defensive team.
Tyrique Stevenson used the Combine to show scouts what they already knew about him. Recording 4.45 seconds on the 40-yard dash, and a 7.09 three-cone, he easily put himself up as an explosive player. Added to that, he also managed a 38.5″ vertical and 10.5″ broad jump. Fans will no doubt be wondering, will all these stats translate onto the gridiron when the Bears need it the most?
