WWE Hall of Famer Snoop Dogg Explains Why He Is “Passionate” about Buying $1 Billion+ Valued NHL Franchise Ottawa Senators

The Snoop Dogg, who recently hosted WrestleMania 39, is looking to sink his teeth into yet another sport. The WWE Hall of Famer, who was part of an impromptu match at the Showcase of the Immortals, however, wants to take on a completely different role this time. Snoop Dogg has confirmed that he was approached to be a part of an ownership group that is pursuing the purchase of NHL Franchise Ottawa Senators. He expressed his desire to be a part of it and explained exactly why he was so passionate about it.

According to The Athletic, the popular rapper was approached by Los Angeles-based businessman Neko Sparks to be a part of their bid. A source added that Snoop Dogg was “passionately involved” and “legitimately excited” at the prospect presented to him.

There is also a belief that with his star power and connections, Snoop Dogg can be instrumental in bringing in other investors and also celebrity involvements with the franchise. This in turn will help the Ottawa Senators brand grow.

Snoop Dogg explains why he wants to buy NHL Franchise Ottawa Senators

During an appearance on ESPN First Take, Snoop Dogg explained that he had been watching hockey for about 25 years. He observed that the number of black athletes taking up the game was increasing by the year. And yet he felt like it wasn’t being offered to the kids in America.

He acknowledged that the game was huge in Canada, and he has been a part of the game in various forms before. So, when the opportunity came knocking, it only made sense for him to jump in.

He said:

“I’ve been watching hockey for about 25 years now, and I’m watching more that look like me play the game but I’m not seeing it being offered to the kids over here in America. I’ve been down with the NHL for a long time, going to games, announcing games, being a part of the society. But this opportunity came in order for me to be a part of the ownership of the Ottawa Senators, so I jumped on it.”

He also revealed his intention to build a Snoop Youth Hockey League outside Canada in order to help kids in urban communities to learn more about the sport.

The legendary rapper appeared convinced that doing so would allow kids that looked like him to be aware of yet another option available to them.

Snoop Dogg faces ownership competition from Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds

Snoop Dogg’s path to owning the Ottawa Senators is not an easy one. He faces stiff competition from Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds is part of a separate group who are also pursuing the ownership of the NFL franchise.

Reynolds has already proven his ability as a sports team owner. Together with actor Rob McElhenney, he purchased the soccer team Wrexham A.F.C.

They have recently earned promotion to EFL League 2 after winning their league. This will be their first appearance in the EFL League 2 after a 15-year absence.

Like Snoop, Reynolds will also be instrumental in drawing more investors in by using his connections. It also helps that Reynolds is Canadian, making him a crowd favorite over the American rapper.

While the odds seem to be in the favor of Reynolds at the moment, only time will tell which of the two will eventually end up owning the NHL franchise.
