John Cena tag team championship

John Cena certainly possesses one of the most decorated resumes in pro wrestling history. Considering his singles career, many might even argue that he is a GOAT. In his 20-plus years with WWE, The Cenation Leader has held a title over two dozen times. In fact, he and Ric Flair are the only superstars who have ever won the WWE World Title 16 times. However, how has the Big Match John fared when booked in a team? To be precise, how many times has John Cena held the tag team championship in WWE?

For most of his in-ring career, Mr. Hustle Loyalty Respect has performed as a singles superstar. Other than the world title, Cena has also held the US championship five times. He is only behind Ric Flair, who won the title six times. So, the question is, has John Cena ever held the WWE tag team championship? Well, the answer is YES.

John Cena has won the Tag Team Championships four times in his WWE career

For those who don’t know, John Cena held the tag team gold four times, two times the world tag team titles, and two times the WWE tag team championships. As a matter of fact, the first time he won the title was with a WWE legend.

1) With Shawn Michaels in 2007:

In 2007, John Cena replaced the injured Triple H and joined hands with HBK to defeat the Rated RKO. The duo held the world tag team titles even when they faced each other at WrestleMania 23. Eventually, they lost them to The Hardy Boyz during a battle royal on RAW.

2) With Batista in 2008:

At the 2008 SummerSlam, The Cenation Leader was set to go one-on-one with “The Animal” Batista. However, a few weeks before the encounter, both men were forced to team. Batista and John Cena went on to face and defeat Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr. to win the World Tag Team Championship.

Unfortunately, the duo didn’t last as champions for more than a week. All because of their disagreements, Cody and DiBiase won back the titles a week later on RAW.

3) With David Otunga in 2010:

John Cena was entangled in a feud with The NEXUS throughout the latter half of 2010. At some point during that time, he was also forced to be a member of the group. In fact, John Cena also held the WWE tag team championship alongside NEXUS member David Otunga.

However, just like Batista, this title reign also didn’t last very long. After the title win, Cena attacked Otunga which led to some series consequences the next week. Wade Barrett forced them to drop the championships to Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel.

4) With The Miz in 2011:

A few months after his unsuccessful reign alongside The NEXUS member, Cena won a title shot for the WWE title against The Miz. Both men were scheduled to go one-on-one at WrestleMania 27, And almost similar to Batista in 2008, Cena was forced to work with The A-Lister.

John Cena and The Miz faced and, in fact, won the WWE tag team championship from The Nexus’ Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel. This time, the reign couldn’t even make it to the next day. Wade Barrett invoked the rematch clause immediately, and Cena lost the title after Miz turned on him.
