Dwyane Wade, Who Is In A Legal Battle With Siovaughn Funches, Once Put $280,000 Toward The Church Where He Met Her
Dwyane Wade has been a devout Christian his whole life. It all started with the values that his mother instilled. Even when he joined the league. He knew that he should follow his teachings. So much so that he gave away $280,000 in tithe to the very church where he met his first wife, Siovaughn Funches. But things haven’t been so rosy with her since.
While Wade was a rising star in the NBA, one part of his life that a lot of people didn’t really focus too much on was his values. Wade was a one-.woman man. And he went to church.
The latter he still does. In fact, it is rumored that Dwyane Wade has given over $20 million in Tithe. But the former, well, Wade is now married to Gabrielle Union.
But the real story is how Wade and Siovaughn’s relationship started and how it soured.
Dwyane Wade at age 25, gave away $280,000 to the church where he met his first wife!
Yes, while most NBA stars would splurge money on cars or jewelry, Dwyane Wade was giving it back to the church. The very place where he met his first wife.
So much was his devotion, toward his wife and faith. He put $280,000 towards the Blood, Water, and the Spirit Ministry in Chicago. The amount is roughly 10% of his pre-tax salary. Tithe.
He met Siovaughn here when they were kids. “I didn’t like her then and she didn’t care much for me.”, Dwayne Wade told Sports Illustrated in 2006.
A friendship blossomed into romance and they were married even before Wade came into the league. But today, the two are engaged in a legal battle.
Oh, how time changes everything.
Dwyane Wade and Siovaughn Funches are locked in a legal battle
Well, more than 15 years after that, the two are now locked in a legal battle. The discourse is around the fact that Dwyane is legally changing his son’s identity.
Zaya Wade has completed her transition and Dwyane is helping her with everything. Siovaughn has filed a lawsuit claiming that Dwyane is using this to get more media spotlight on him.
A take that is bewildering and the argument goes further, Siovaughn insists that Wade cannot legally do this since he didn’t consult her for the changes that he is aiding his daughter with.
Tragic end. But life goes on, we suppose.
