Watch: Stephen Curry Recreating Iconic ‘Chicken Curry’ Commercial For Kids Resurfaces After Lakers Take 3-1 Lead
Back in 2015, a young Stephen Curry starred in a hilarious commercial for ESPN’s SportsCenter. The commercial showed the superstar walking through the ESPN Café, where the lunch lady told him there was chicken curry for lunch. Curry assumed that they had cooked “chicken curry” in order to celebrate a recent performance of his. However, the cafeteria employees had no idea who he was even after Steph thanked them profusely.
A few months later, he organically ended up recreating the same scene at his basketball camp. Years later, after the LA Lakers handed the Golden State Warriors another loss in game 4, the iconic recreation popped up on Twitter, once again. The video can provide comic relief for the Dub Nation, who are on the verge of being knocked out of the Playoffs.

The 30-second commercial shows Stephen Curry assuming that the cafeteria cooked “chicken curry” especially for him. Curry had had a 27-point game the previous day and told his SportsCenter anchor friends that the same dish had been cooked when he had a great game the previous week.
The cafeteria workers were oblivious to who Curry was, as the Warriors’ superstar thanked them profusely. This was followed by the now-famous tagline:
“I lace them up every day, for guys like you.”
As Curry walked off, the cafeteria workers looked confused at each other. The hilarious advert was then recreated in real life by Curry just a few months later.

In November of the same year, Curry recreated the video at his Pebble Beach training camp. The clip showed him walking around the cafeteria, before asking the workers about the day’s menu.
When he was told that they were serving chicken curry, Steph quickly turned towards the camera and laughed. He went on to thank them profusely, with the workers seemingly unaware of the iconic commercial that he had shot just a few months earlier.

The now 35-year-old then picked up his plate and repeated the iconic tagline from the ad. The video has been making the rounds on social media following the Warriors’ game 4 loss against the LA Lakers.
Staring at an exit after just 5 matches, the Golden State Warriors will once again be looking at Curry to get them out of the hole. Whether he can produce yet another huge performance for his team remains to be seen.
