Porsche 919 Spa Lap record: Raikkonen breaks lap record, Force India enter dreamland
Porsche 919 Spa Lap record was broken by Kimi Raikkonen today as he put in a lap timing of 1:41:6 during qualifying.
Porsche had built the 919 Hybrid evo in order to break down lap records. The machine had high downforce and was thought to be one that could cause a few uproars in the motorsport world.
And Porsche achieved what they set out to do, as their 919 Hybrid evo broke the Spa lap record, previously held by Lewis Hamilton, thereby making a name for themselves and their machine that had been build to do this exact thing.
Neel Jani, the a Porche factory driver had the privilege to set that record, putting up a time of 1:41.7.
The earlier record was held by Lewis Hamilton, clocking 1:42.553.
Check out the video:
Kimi Raikkonen has however shattered that lap record, by clocking 1:41:6 during qualifying at Spa today.

Kimi Raikkonen has had 5 podium finishes in the last 5 races and would be hoping for another one at Spa this weekend, now that he has already broken the track record.
Raikkonen, however, did not have the fairy tale ending that he hoped for, as he finished 6th in Q3.
Ferrari were looking on course for a strong 1-2 at Spa, however, rain coming down during Q3 meant that he couldn’t go faster. But something worse happened, when he was forced off the race track, into the pit lane and out of his car.
The Finn had some problem with his car and couldn’t set a final, fast lap in. Conditions were pretty tricky during Q3, as rain came down during the initial part and forced everyone to shift to intermediates. But during the end part of Q3, the track became a little dry, letting Hamilton set a fast enough lap and get the pole position for tomorrow.
It was a fairytale qualifying for the Racing Point Force India team, as they managed to get both their drivers on the second row, with Ocon qualifying 3rd.
It was wonderful to see such a tumultuous month or so ending with triumph for the Force India team.
