“Putting My Spin on It”: Jalen Hurts’ QB Coach Reveals His Game-Plan to Boost Ties With the Star Quarterback

"Jalen Hurts is easily the most likeable QB in the NFL" : B/R Gridiron director was filled with respect for Eagles QB after his efforts to hold the WFT accountable for the railing incident at FedEx Field

Jalen Hurts showed his merit last season when he led the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl. Despite not being able to hoist the Lombardi Trophy high in the sky, he became a fan favorite. It could not have been achieved without the team’s new quarterback coach, Alex Tanney. Recently, Tanney shed some light on how the star QB and he get along.

When the head coach of the Eagles promoted Brian Johnson to the post of offensive coordinator, 35-year-old Alex was promoted to the QB coach’s position. Because he worked under 12 different coaches and 12 different offensive coordinators when he was a backup, Alex believes that he brings a different perspective to his new post, which helped him achieve a lot success last season with the Eagles.

Tanney isn’t looking to make drastic changes in the QB room

Although this will be his first year coaching a quarterback room led by Justin Hurts, Marcus Mariota, Ian Book, and rookie Tanner McKee, Alex has worked as a quarterback and offensive assistant last season which will make things a lot easier for him. Commenting on what will be his approach to help the likes of Jalen Hurts, Alex recently said:

I don’t know if (anything will) change a whole lot,” he said. ” The first year I was here I wasn’t permanently in that room but was able to establish a relationship with (Hurts), then last year being in there getting to know him better and better, so that’s certainly a positive headed into this year.

From gridiron to exam papers, Hurts has mastered it all

Things could not have been better for Hurts at this point of time. The star athlete not only took his team to the Super Bowl last season but also signed a massive extension contract to become one of the highest paid QBs in the history of the league. To add to it, he recently completed his master’s degree as well.

Hurts earned a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in human relations. He started his football career at Alabama, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and information sciences. The Eagles QB had revealed in an interview that he was inspired by his mother to earn a master’s degree .

Completing his degree marks the culmination of a busy and eventful first half of 2023 for the Houston native. It will be interesting to see how the next half of the pans out for the power lifter.
