Julian Edelman Candidly Settles the Lamar Jackson vs. Patrick Mahomes Debate

A few weeks back, Lamar Jackson took the NFL world by storm after signing a mammoth $260 Million, 5-year deal, which made him the highest paid QB(on annual salary basis) in the competition. While some experts are still a bit skeptical about Ravens’ decision to go all out in order to retain Lamar, SPEAK’s Emmanuel Acho reckons that if there is someone who can dethrone current Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes, it is Lamar Jackson.

In a recent episode of SPEAK on FS1, analyst Emmanuel Acho showered praise on Lamar, while letting everyone know that he has what 2x Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes doesn’t, a unanimous league MVP which he won for his heroics in 2019. So in case Jackson goes on to have a dream season this time around, he might as well end up dethroning current ‘King Mahomes.’

Emmanuel Acho reckons Lamar Jackson can dethrone Patrick Mahomes in the coming season

Over the years, Lamar has well and truly proven that he can bamboozle the best of defenses. After all, winning league MVP honors at 23 years of age is no joke. Hence, weeks after the Ravens QB signed a massive extension deal, Emmanuel Acho had no hesitation in saying that, “the only person who can take the throne from Patrick Mahomes is actually Lamar Jackson, the only person who can do it this season.”

Explaining why only Lamar can match Mahomes, Acho added that even if someone like Josh Allen ends up having the best season of his life, he will still have only one league MVP, one Super Bowl title and one Super Bowl MVP. However, Jackson already has a unanimous MVP, and if he ends up having a dream season, he will have:

Two regular season MVPs, a Super Bowl and a Super Bowl MVP. I get it, he(Lamar) will still be shy a Super Bowl and a Super Bowl MVP(as compared to Mahomes) even if he has a dream season. But at least an argument could be had,” Acho stated, reminding everyone that Jackson is also second on the list of active quarterbacks with highest win percentage as a starter (73.7%).

A lot is riding on Lamar’s shoulders this season

Acho’s unending praise for Lamar Jackson actually makes a lot of sense as the star QB has time and again showcased at the highest level that he can outperform absolutely anyone on a given day. In fact, despite having a lot of off-field issues regarding his extension deal with the Ravens last season, Jackson was still able to take his unit to the playoffs.

However, as many experts have pointed out, with his average annual payout exceeding $52 Million, there will be a lot riding on Lamar’s shoulders. Although he has showcased on several occasions that he can excel under pressure with relative ease, with such a hefty payout, even a playoff berth won’t satisfy many Baltimore fans.

Ravens’ admirers will not settle for anything less than a Super Bowl appearance and for that, Jackson would have to go all out this season.
