The Panthers are no longer interested in acquiring the Ohio State QB
The Carolina Panthers traded up from the ninth selection to have the first pick in the NFL Draft. Their initial choice was Ohio State’s, C.J. Stroud. However, it looks like that is not the case anymore. Instead, the team is interested in the Florida Gators QB Anthony Richardson.
The team has been trying to find its perfect signal-caller after Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield struggled at the position. Hence, they decided that they needed to be aggressive in their pursuit of finishing their new guy. Throughout the draft process, only two names came up. The team reportedly only considered Stroud and Alabama’s Bryce Young.
In the midst of such news, another negative report came out about the young talent. Michael Lombardi, a former NFL executive, does not have much trust in Stroud. On his podcast, The Lombardi Line, he said that he was unsure if the Houston Texans would take him because he was difficult to coach.
What the former Cleveland Browns general manager did was ask around if the rumors had any basis. “I said, ‘You know, I heard C.J. Stroud’s not an easy guy to coach,’ yeah, and everybody echoes that back to you,” Lombardi said. “I’m not saying he’s not a good player. I like C.J. Stroud. Would I pick him at two? I don’t know.”
