“Not Good for Any of Us”: Kyle Busch Delivers Verdict on William Byron’s Win in Rain-Curtailed NASCAR Race

Both Kyle Busch and William Byron have been at the top of their game this season. After a rather ugly exit from Joe Gibbs Racing, Busch is on a redemption tour this year, having won three races so far in the regular season. Meanwhile, Byron too has displayed exceptional pace, outgunning his rather popular teammates, Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson.

As we inch closer to the end of the regular season, each and every point advantage starts being a point of concern for the drivers. Talking about this situation and Byron’s win at the rain-shortened Quaker State 400, Busch explained his mixed feelings at the conclusion of the race.

Following the race, Bob Pockrass had the chance to speak with the Richard Childress Racing driver. Pockrass asked Busch if he would be okay with the top 5 finish at Atlanta, even though he may have been able to grab his 4th win of the season.

The two-time Cup Series champion, who seemed a bit under the weather, stated, “Yeah with all things considered, I have wrecked in every race here. I missed three of those wrecks today, I didn’t get any. Out here in one piece, top 5. Congrats to William, although, I hate William won.”

“Because he’s one of the guys we are chasing in points right now. Trying to get ahead of and also the bonus points that we all want for the playoffs he’s collecting more of those, which is not good for any of us.”

Busch suggests that they need to get better to challenge Byron

Despite finishing the race in 5th place, Busch spoke about the problems that they had been running into in terms of their overall racing. Looking at how the championship is shaping up this season, it is Busch and Byron who have the highest number of wins and the overall best performances so far.

Considering that every point matters at this stage, Busch recently mentioned, “We for sure see the mistakes that we’re making. We need to get better on all of that, we all need to clean up our work.” Speaking further about the weekend and his eventual finishing position, Busch reckoned that he had the pace and strategy to hand him a much better finish than the one he got.

While the competition between Byron and Busch is strong, there is a certain Martin Truex Jr in between the pair in the points standings to contend with.
