Undeterred by Barack Obama’s Stern Scolding For Spreading Conspiracy, Stephen Curry Names Former President His ‘Role Model’

Stephen Curry is an idol to many young aspiring NBA superstars. But, even the Baby-Faced Assassin has his idols, both on the court and off it. In a recent episode of The Shift: Finding Equity at Work, Curry was asked about the people he looks up to. When questioned about who his idol is outside of basketball and his family, Steph decided to name-drop President Barack Obama. An interesting choice, especially considering he received a stern email from the former POTUS in 2018, after he expressed doubts about the Moon landing.

Back in 2018, the four-time NBA Champion questioned the credibility of the Moon landing. He shared his doubts, in a podcast with Andre Iguodala and Vince Carter. This obviously did not sit well with either NASA or Obama. In fact, he received responses from both of them, criticizing his statement. Despite this, Curry still maintains that Obama is one of his heroes.

Recently, Stephen Curry appeared on The Shift podcast where he was made to endure a rapid-fire question round. During the round, Steph was asked to pick his hero outside the court and outside of his family. A difficult decision to make, but without hesitation, the Golden State Warriors star selected Barack Obama.

An interesting choice, especially, given their history. Obama is undoubtedly a great idol, but back in 2018, he had some beef with Chef Curry. In another podcast that year, Steph questioned the legitimacy of the infamous Moon landing. A huge accomplishment for NASA and the United States in general, Obama did not take this well.

As such, he sent Curry a stern email, scolding him for his irresponsible comments and asking him to make things right. Obviously taken aback, Steph got to work. He immediately interviewed an astronaut on Instagram Live and even commissioned a shoe project with Under Armor, that saw him release a pair of sneakers featuring craters and the American flag that he wore in a game and later auctioned off.

Safe to say, Curry made things right with his actions. After all, President Obama is an influential personality and made him realize the power he has as an influential persona himself.

In 2015, the Golden State Warriors visited the White House after winning an NBA Championship. It was the first of Stephen Curry’s four and a visit to the seat of Presidential power is a long-standing tradition. One of the more iconic moments of the visit, was when the Warriors presented then-President Barack Obama with a jersey.

With the No.44 on the back, Golden State paid homage to Obama, who is the 44th President in the history of the United States of America.

It certainly was a special moment for the Golden State Warriors. Their win kicked off what would be a dominant run on their part, winning three more championships in the next seven years. Which meant three more visits to the White House.
