Shikhar Dhawan to be axed: Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan is all in likeliness to be axed from the Indian squad for the West Indies series.

Shikhar Dhawan, India’s opener in all formats of the game, might not enjoy this status any further as reports suggests that he is all set to be dropped from India’s Test team for the upcoming series against West Indies.

According to reports in The Indian Express, selectors are highly likely to not include Dhawan in the squad due to his poor run in the Test series against England. In four Test matches, Dhawan had scored a paltry 162 runs at an average of 20.25 and a strike rate of 55.47.

With 327 runs in four matches at an average of 81.75 and a strike rate of 101.86, Dhawan might be among the runs in the ongoing Asia Cup, but even his sublime form in UAE is unlikely to guarantee him a Test spot. The Indian selectors are scheduled to announce the Test team tomorrow.

Lokesh Rahul, Dhawan’s opening partner in England, had scored a career-saving Test century at The Oval. Without which, even his place in the team would have been under the radar.

Prithvi Shaw, who was called to England to replace an out-of-sorts Murali Vijay, is expected to be in line for a Test debut. With the tour of Australia nearing, the Indian team management would be expecting Shaw to make the most of these two matches.

In which looks like a probable squad for the West Indies series, it is unlikely to witness a Test comeback for Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli, India’s captain in all formats of the game, will be named in the team after him undergoing a Yo-Yo Test.
