Dhawan Asia Cup Man of the Series: Indian opening batsman Shikar Dhawan has been named the Man of the Series in Asia Cup.

From being adjourned the ‘Man of the Series’ to possibly not being named in India’s Test squad for the series against West Indies tomorrow, there is no hiding to the fact that Shikhar Dhawan might be in for an ironical weekend.

That being said, he has no one but his dismal form in England to blame. As much contradicting as the above news sounds, a bit more was Dhawan’s form in the Test series in England and this Asia Cup.

Post his abysmal numbers in England, Dhawan ended his Asia Cup campaign as the highest run-scorer, scoring 342 runs in five matches at an average of 68.40 and a strike rate of 102.80. Whether this superb performance will aid him in retaining in Test spot, it will be known within a dozen hours.

Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony after receiving this award, Dhawan credited the quality of this tournament, chiefly its final. “Really enjoyed this tournament. Fantastic final, and really good tournament for myself. Enjoyed my batting and want to continue this way”, said the 32-year old southpaw.

Dhawan was then asked about the much-talked about series in England and how it was to shift formats and conditions within a span of a week. “England tour has helped me become mature, and I was playing more balanced in this tournament. Want to remain consistent”, answered Dhawan.

Rohit Sharma, captaining India in this tourney, also had a fruitful run with the bat, scoring 317 runs in five matches at an average of 105.66 and a strike rate of 93.51. The duo has been a dominant force for India at the top of the order in limited-overs cricket for few years now. Praising Sharma, Dhawan was quoted, “Helps to have Rohit as the partner. His consistency at the top matters for me as well. He plays the aggressor’s role, sometimes I do. And he too had a great Asia Cup.”
