“What’s My Purpose While I’m Here?”: LeBron James’ ‘Existential Crisis’ Following 2nd Championship Resurfaces 10 Years Later
LeBron James has been dominating the hardwood for a long time, and has been a big presence in the social media game as well over the years. While the King has managed to achieve almost all accolades possible on the court, he also leads his peers by being the most followed NBA star on Instagram. A recent thread on X (formerly “Twitter”) asked users to disclose their funniest LBJ moments. A user named @waydotflac revealed his pick for the same – Bron’s existential crisis post on Instagram from 10 years ago after he won his second NBA Championship.
It may be a debatable move to anoint LeBron James as the GOAT. However, there is no question that the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is the social media GOAT in the basketball world. With 158 million followers on Instagram, the King reportedly earns much more from his Instagram than his per-game wage. According to Hooper HQ, James racks up $851,000 per sponsored post on the Meta application.
LeBron James’ iconic Instagram post from 2013 resurfaces on social media
@HanaHoops’ recent tweet asking people for their funniest LeBron James moment reached millions of users. Users flooded the comment section with various hilarious moments from Bron’s two-decade-long career – which included the dance-off with Shaquille O’Neal, Harlem Shake from the Miami Heat days, animated outburst against the Boston Celtics, and many other instances.
Meanwhile, @waydotflac posted an older “funny moment”. The user resurfaced an Instagram post that LeBron uploaded in 2013. The sombre post carried two pictures of James with knitted eyebrows and was captioned:
Up late thinking about life. What’s my purpose while I’m here. I’m blessed and will do my very best to continue to inspire the youth! #IPromise #ILoveBeingARoleModelToThem #ICantLetThemDown

Seems rather surprising that the King was having an existential crisis after winning his second title with the Miami Heat. Despite being regarded as the best player in the world, Bron posted this photo that is now a meme for fans. And it is only one among the numerous other amusing posts from that era.
LBJ spoke about the difficulties of playing in the social media era
Playing in the social media era has its pros and cons. Back in 2018, during the Finals series against the Golden State Warriors, LeBron James revealed the difficulties of playing in the social media era.
“Like, if you really pay attention, there’s people out there that really try to tear you down. You have to realize that; one, you don’t know who they are; two, they don’t know what they’re talking about; three, they’ve never stepped in your shoes or been in the light to understand what it means to have to perform.”
Having been exposed to his fair share of criticism, LeBron has managed to tune out the naysayers. However, there are several players that fail to do so.
