“Not So Sure Denver is Going to Take Out the Lakers!”: LeBron James and Co. Get ‘Unexpected’ Backing Against Nikola Jokic and the Defending Champions
On the latest episode of ‘The Stephen Smith Show,’ Stephen A. Smith discussed the hot trade of Damian Lillard. He also weighed in on his expectations from the new rosters in the league, particularly the Bucks and defending champion Denver Nuggets. Damian Lillard‘s move to the Milwaukee Bucks has given them a major boost to the championship title this year, but teams like the LA Lakers and Denver Nuggets can’t be ruled out.
Considering every other team in mind, SAS is skeptical about the results of the big teams. Going further with his criticism, he also pondered on the possibility of Nikola Jokic and Co. going against WC favorites LeBron James’ LA Lakers.
Even after losing Dennis Schroder to the Raptors, the Lakers have made some impressive off-season moves to strengthen the roster. From extending Anthony Davis’ contract to re-signing important names like Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura to Gabe Vincent’s addition has strengthened the team for the upcoming season.
LeBron James and the Lakers get unexpected backing from Stephen A. Smith
On the latest episode of his show, Stephen A. Smith raised concerns about the Nuggets coming out victorious once again in the Western Conference. In his opinion, even though, “Jamal Murray and boys can ball, no doubt about it, deserve all love and respect, but Dame can handle his business against them.”
Smith is a well-known critic of LeBron James, with his belief that MJ is the greatest player of all time. However, he has time and again shown his love for the Lakers superstar. Talking about the 2023 finals MVP going against LBJ and the squad, SAS backed the Lakers. He said,
“By the way, I am not so sure Denver is going to take out the Lakers this year, if they stay healthy and Anthony Davis doesn’t resemble a Mr. Roller Coaster”
In addition to the Milwaukee Bucks and Lakers, Smith also believes that the reigning NBA champions won’t even stand a chance against the new Boston Celtics. Additionally, with the latest changes in the roster, the LA side is looking more composed and looking to reign, along with The King entering his 21st season in the league.
LeBron looks all set for the upcoming season
Even after spending two decades playing at the topmost level in the league, LeBron James looks better than ever in his 21st year in the NBA. In the latest update on his Instagram, the power forward looks fit and healthy practicing on the court with Austin Reaves and the Lakers squad.

At the age of 38, LBJ is starting matches for his team and playing an important role in every victory. Even if SAS is a through-and-through MJ fan, he is aware of the impact The King can bring to the court. It will be interesting to see whether Smith’s analogy will hold true in the upcoming season or not.
