Sandeep Lamichhane signs for Melbourne Stars: The Big Bash League will witness the Asian sensation in the upcoming edition of the tourney.

BBL franchise Melbourne Stars have acquired the services of Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane. Having made an impact in the Indian Premier League earlier this year, the 18-year old cricketer has signed for his sixth T20 franchise since then.

After donning the respective jerseys of Delhi Daredevils (Indian Premier League), St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (Caribbean Premier League), Kowloon Cantons (Hong Kong Twenty20 Blitz), Montreal Tigers (Global T20 Canada) and Nangarhar Leopards (Afghanistan Premier League), Lamichhane will don Stars’ green jersey now.

Having made his T20I debut for ICC World XI against West Indies at Lord’s earlier this year, Lamichhane has played only a couple of T20Is, bowling five wicket-less overs at an economy rate of 11.

However, his T20 records remains impressive. In 12 T20s around the globe, Lamichhane has counted for 14 wickets at an average of 19.92, an economy rate of 7.15 and a strike rate of 16.7.

Lamichhane will play the BBL in two stints. After playing for Stars till January 5 next year, Lamichhane will travel to Bangladesh to play the Bangladesh Premier League. After the conclusion of the tournament in Bangladesh, he will return back to Australia for the business end of the BBL.

“I first saw Sandeep bowl for Nepal in the Asian U19 Championships in Malaysia and was immediately impressed by both his skill as a wrist spinner and also his energy. Lamichhane had a successful IPL debut for Delhi and bowled well in the CPL. We have high expectations that he will light up the BBL and become a star of the tournament,” Trent Woodhill, Melbourne Stars’ list manager was quoted to the franchise’s official website.
