MS Dhoni hits a six down the ground: The Indian wicket-keeper broke the shackled yesterday with a six down the ground.

During the second ODI of the ongoing Windies’ tour of India at Visakhapatnam, former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit a six to display signs of getting into his grove in the first innings.

Having said that, Dhoni failed to capitalise on his start as he got out cheaply for yet another time this year.

Dhoni had come in to bat at No. 5 in the 33rd over when Ambati Rayudu’s attempt of playing a slog sweep saw him missing the ball completely. Coming to a warm reception at a venue where he had scored his maiden ODI century, Dhoni got off the mark on the first ball that he faced from Ashley Nurse.

Continuing on the trend of being at the non-striker’s end when fellow Indian players achieve significant ODI records, it was a ‘been there done that’ moment for Dhoni as Indian captain Virat Kohli became the fastest cricketer ever to score 10,000 ODI runs.

On the penultimate delivery of the 38th over, Dhoni stepped out to a Marlon Samuels delivery to smash over the bowler’s head for a six. After arriving midway to punch gloves with Kohli, Dhoni had a smile on his face, an expression which suggested that he enjoyed the shot.

While the Indian team management, Dhoni himself and his fans would have anticipated of more such shots from the 37-year old wicket-keeper batsman, Dhoni let all of them as he got deceived by a Obed McCoy slower delivery in the 41st over, which went on to hit his stumps. Dhoni ended up scoring 20 (25) with the help of one six.

With his lean patch extending match after match, Dhoni would be itching to come up with a significant innings sooner rather than later.
