WATCH: F1 releases new graphics for 2019
The Formula 1 graphics for 2018 helped fans get a better idea of what was happening on track, a Liberty Media initiative aimed at helping the non-traditional fans understand the sport a better and not get driven away by the technicality of the sport.
The graphics were meant to be informative, cool and aesthetically pleasing; something that Liberty were able to achieve in 2018.
But now they are trying to take it a step further.
While the current graphics system makes good use of the halo to give fans a fair idea of the speed of the car through different corners, this year the focus will also be in predicted overtaking.
Overtaking and wheel-to-wheel racing is seen as that biggest motivating factor for non-F1 fan to get excited about the sport and get lured into watching it.
The adrenaline that a fan gets from watching two high speed cars go head to head is something that is unparalleled and Liberty is trying to build that up in a data driven way.
From 2019, ‘overtaking probability’ will be made available to the fans, so that they know when one is coming.
Car performance would also be available on screen for the fans.
But the highlight has to be ‘pitstop advantage’ part, which shows how the drivers would be placed on track after one of them goes in for a pitstop.
This is how the proposed graphics would look:
How do you rate these new graphics and do you think they will in any way enhance television viewing of the sport and somehow attract more fans to it?
