Niki Lauda health update: Mercedes chairman back in intensive care
Niki Lauda had braved a lung transplant in August and even made a video for his fans post recovery a few weeks back, thanking for all of their love in a tough time for him and his family.
Lauda was holidaying with his family in Ibiza when he was flown to Vienna because of a flu. He then had to undergo an emergency lung transplant in order to save his life.
Post the successful operation, Lauda was kept in intensive care for months before being discharged.
Lauda has since been working on his rehabilitation in order to make it in time for the Australian GP in March.
However, he has been dealt with a slight blow in his bid to complete full recovery, as he has been moved back into intensive care, as per reports in Austrian publication OE24.
Lauda has been moved into intensive care as a precautionary measure, as there is an influenza case in his family and because Lauda’s immune system is weak after the operation, the doctors did not want to take any chances.
“There was an influenza case in his family, and he is treated to an intensive care unit with us,” a Vienna AKH(the hospital treating Lauda) spokesperson told the media.
According to the report, Lauda too has developed a slight flu and hence has been moved into intensive care.
Niki’s condition is still not completely normal, especially with respect to his immune system and hence the doctors will want to keep him away from any kind of trouble with respect to a relapse.
Niki Lauda would be hoping to get out of the hospital as soon as possible and work again on recuperating from the transplant with his loved ones.
