LA Lakers release statement on LeBron James’ injury
LeBron James’ groin injury has taken more time than expected to heal, as the initial assessment of James’ injury has now gone out of the window and the star has been out for the last 8 games, with confirmation coming in that he’ll be missing the Utah Jazz game too.
LeBron injured his groin during Lakers’ Christmas day win against the Warriors, and was rushed to the locker room, where initial scans had shown that the injury was not a serious one and could de dealt with pretty quickly.
However, groin injuries take time to heal and you can rush the player back as it could relapse pretty easily.
Hence, LeBron was kept on a day-to-day assessment, one that did not quite give the feedback that the fans wanted it to.

Lakers’ LeBron James and Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo increased their conference leads in the second fan returns of NBA All-Star Voting. Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade still among starters in fan vote. So is Luka Doncic.

Now, with over a fortnight since that injury, reports started coming in of LeBron having developed a sports hernia, one that would keep him on the sidelines for at least another month and then force him to play through pain all through the season.
Now, while Luke Walton did release a statement regarding LeBron’s injury before the win against Pistons, last night, an official update from the Lakers’ side was still pending and hence Lakers came up with an update right before the Utah game, one that LeBron is certain to miss.
According to the new update provided(which is a little ridiculous, as it claims that they will come up with another update), LeBron has been cleared to increase on-court functional movements, but will be further reassessed and another statement will be released on the 16th of January.
“LeBron James was evaluated by team medical staff and physicians today and has been cleared to increase on-court functional basketball movements.” the Lakers statement read.

According to reports, LeBron is now certain to miss at least 3 more games after the Utah one, which will take his missed games tally to a shocking 12.
LeBron has never missed more than 13 games in any of his previous 15 games in the NBA. Thus, while this groin injury did not seem too bad at first, it has proved out to be a menace for both Lebron and the Lakers.
Lakers have gone onto win just 3 off the 8 games that they have played without LeBron, and desperately need him for the second half of the season, as all teams will now make a real surge for a playoff berth.
With the western conference already so stacked this season, the Lakers will be hoping that LeBron comes back to the team in another week or so.
