Rohit Sharma’s strange defense: MI captain uses leg to avoid stumping vs RR | WATCH
Rohit Sharma’s strange defense: Mumbai Indians captain was witnessed playing a strange defensive shot against Rajasthan Royals.
During the 27th match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals at Mumbai, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma put on display a strange defensive technique against Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham.
It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the 10th over when the proactive bowler bowled a quicker delivery down the leg-side after watching the batsman stepping out of his crease.
In a bid to avoid getting out, Sharma stretched his left leg towards the leg-side. His action not just saved him but also converted a potential wide delivery into a legal one.
Despite the ball reaching the deep square leg fielder, Sharma decided to not run for it was a deliberate attempt on his part. While him running wouldn’t have been questionable, it would have surely raised the questions of spirit of cricket.
Sharma, who replaced rookie batsman Siddesh Lad in the playing XI, ended up scoring 47 (32) with the help of six fours and a six before getting out in the 11th over.
After Royals captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and put MI in to bat, the hosts ended up scoring 187/5 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Opening the batting with Sharma, wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock top-scored for his team scoring 81 (52) with the help of six fours and four sixes.
With bowling figures of 4-0-39-3, fast bowler Jofra Archer was Rajasthan’s pick of the bowlers.
