“I’m Sorry, This is Tough”: Deion Sanders Gets Emotional as Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter Play Their Last Game For Colorado

The Colorado Buffaloes started a fruitful journey two seasons back with Deion Sanders, his sons Shedeur and Shilo, and Travis Hunter. Over the course, the program’s profile enhanced to such an extent that it captured the imagination of the football world. However, it is time to say goodbye. And Coach Prime, who will be staying back at Colorado, got emotional as he walked with his sons onto the field for the final time during the Alamo Bowl against BYU.

“The journey. The journey has been tremendous. I’m sorry, this is tough,” he said.

Deion reminisced about the moment when his sons and Hunter first stepped at Folsom Field wearing the black and golden colors of Colorado. He added that they went through everything together — the good and bad, the ups and the downs.

“It’s been a heck of a journey and I am thankful and appreciative of it. I really am. Thank God for it,” added Coach Prime.

This journey has been nothing short of transformative for Coach Prime and his three wards. After an electrifying start to his first season following the move from Jackson State, the campaign quickly unraveled. The team struggled to adjust to life in the Pac-12, enduring a string of defeats that led to a disappointing 4-8 finish last year.

The second season, however, marked a remarkable turnaround that few had anticipated. The Buffs started strong once again but, this time, sustained their momentum, dominating opponents with their explosive attacking play.

Under Deion’s leadership, the team became Bowl-eligible and capped off the regular season with an impressive 9-3 record, narrowly missing out on the playoffs. Hunter and Shedeur became college football stars with the two-way player winning the Heisman Trophy while the quarterback is slated to be a top pick in next year’s NFL Draft.

Though things ended on a losing note for them in the Alamo Bowl — their final game — the season and the journey would be remembered for the grit and determination they showed to reach where they did.
