Of late there has been a customary knack for cricket experts or former cricketers to choose their all time playing XI during a TV/digital show or for their own social media handles. Some cricketers select their Top XI from the players they’ve played with or against while the others do it on an overall basis.
The readiness to create a playing XI brings in a lot of curiosity from the fans for they are always looking forward to cricketing experts choosing one player over the other and so on.
A former Indian cricketer who has been in the news since morning for his selection of India’s Top ODI XI is Aakash Chopra. The 41-year old’s choosing Kapil Dev over Mahendra Singh Singh Dhoni or Virat Kohli as the captain of the team has invited numerous angry reactions on social media.
Before having a look at those reactions, let us go though Chopra’s playing XI.
All Time India ODI Playing XI:
In Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma, Chopra selected the Mumbai-duo as openers of his ODI XI. Chopra going for Sharma ahead of his own former opening partner in Virender Sehwag was a surprising pick.
Chopra, who made his Test debut against New Zealand at Ahmedabad in 2003 under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, picked his former captain to bat at No. 3 in his team.
Indian captain Kohli, who is on the brinks of achieving monumental milestones in international cricket, was selected to bat at No. 4. Yuvraj Singh and current wicket-keeper batsman Dhoni were named in the middle-order followed by captain Dev, who would also be playing the responsibility of the fast bowling all-rounder.
The spin bowling department comprised of the experienced duo of Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble. Whereas, the fast bowling division comprised of Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah, whose selection over Javagal Srinath and Ajit Agarkar was again debatable.
However, what didn’t settle well with the audiences was the appointment of Dev as the captain of the team. Read some of the latest Twitter reactions on the same below:
