CM Punk is the most talked-about wrestler in recent times after his infamous actions backstage following the All Out post-show media scrum last year. The Straight Edge superstar defeated Jon Moxley and secured the AEW World Championship at the All Out PPV event. However, he was stripped of the title shortly after he flew into a rage and addressed Colt Cabana, Adam “Hangman” Page, and the Elite with a stream of expletives. All hell broke loose when he was confronted backstage by Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks.
Punk reportedly joined his buddy Ace Steel and caused an outbreak of fisticuffs. Following the incident, everybody involved was suspended indefinitely. However, the Elite returned to AEW TV during the Full Gear PPV in November.
But CM Punk’s status remains in limbo. It was reported that AEW was in talks about buying out his contract to let go of him officially. Despite being written off AEW TV, the former AEW World Champion fired shots at the current Champion MJF on Instagram.
CM Punk takes a dig at MJF and AEW ratings
CM Punk and MJF were involved in one of the most iconic feuds in AEW in 2022. Their rivalry saw them slugging it out in a brutal Dog Collar match at AEW Revolution. Punk managed to beat MJF that night.
On Friday, MJF took to his Instagram to show off the awards he won for “Most Hated” and “Feud of the Year” with CM Punk. However, MJF concealed CM Punk’s name by sticking tape on it and writing his own name instead. Interestingly, CM Punk commented on MJF’s post an hour later.
Punk stated, “Maybe find some tape for the ratings so nobody sees those either.”

Amidst the talk about CM Punk’s contract being possibly bought out, there were also talks about his potential return to the roster. However, top AEW talents like Chris Jericho are reportedly “making sure” that CM Punk does not return to the locker room.
CM Punk is removed from the cover of AEW’s first-ever video game
AEW’s first-ever video game “Fight Forever” is set to release sometime in 2023. Previously, CM Punk was featured at the front and center of the cover, however, he was later replaced by MJF. The new official cover featured stars like Kenny Omega, MJF, Sting, Chris Jericho, and more. Although Punk is removed from the cover page, it will still likely be in the game as he is still in contract with the company.
