Anil Kumble will begin his first West Indies vs India test series on 21st july

The ongoing India- Australia series has provided the fans with a lot of on field and off field entertainment. Every session, every over, every ball presented the fans with a new surprise in the recently concluded Bangalore test. And the action hasn’t died down after that. Every time you put on the sports news or take up a sports daily, you find something new brewing up with regard to the two countries involved.

While yesterday was dominated by Starc’s injury, Lehmann’s health issue and the DRS controversy, it is now time for the Indian’s to hog some of the limelight.

Anil Kumble, the head coach of the Indian team is in line to elevated to the position of the Team Director, a post which has been vacant since Ravi Shastri’s departure.

The New Indian Express reported that discussions are taking place at a fast pace and Kumble could take up the role of the director from as early as April 14.

The Committee of Administrators(CoA) met with Kumble on the night of the BCCI awards to discuss with him the possibility of this move.

The BCCI is looking for a complete overhaul with respect to the administrative structure of the Indian team. They are trying to replicate the ECB model and thus desperately need to find a team director.

The BCCI is also looking to abolish the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly. The CAC’s last job was to appoint Kumble as coach last year. And now the board is keen to offer one of the members of the CAC the responsibility of handling cricket operations of all the BCCI teams if Kumble accepts the role of team director.

According to reports, Rahul Dravid too could be taking up more responsibility with regards to coaching the team, if Kumble accepts the director role.

The best bet right now for the Indian side is that Kumble stays on as coach and also becomes the team director, as the team wouldn’t want a new face coming in at this stage, with the Champions Trophy just round the corner.

If Kumble decides to stay on as coach, BCCI will have to look for a new director, else Kumble could take on the duties of a director and one from the CAC could take up the head coach’s role!

Interesting times ahead for Indian cricket
