Charlotte Flair: WWE Planning to make Charlotte Break her father, Ric Flair’s record

Charlotte Flair: WWE Planning to make Charlotte Break her father, Ric Flair’s longstanding record of the most world championship reigns.

That the WWE has tried to build their women’s division around Charlotte is no secret. They have tried to establish her as the greatest female wrestler to have stepped in the ring for them. She has already overtaken Trish Stratus for the most women’s championship and reigns supreme at the top. Trish wrestled for the WWE from 2000 to 2006. She won the women’s championship 7 times in almost 7 years. That is an average of 1 reign per year. In contrast Charlotte has won 9 times in 4 years! That is more than 2 reigns per year. At this rate, The Queen will overtake her father’s record of 16 world title reigns in the next 4 years.

However, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that is exactly what the WWE have in mind. Except the Women’s Tag Team Championships, Charlotte has held every other gold available to the female competitors. She has won the NXT women’s championship, The Diva’s championship once and The Raw and SmackDown Titles a record 4 times each.

Her father, Ric had a career that spanned 40 years. He is officially recognized by WWE as a 16-time world champion. Flair was known for his lengthy title reigns. One of his reigns even lasted a whole 793 days! It was not until Flair was at the twilight of his career that the number of days, he carried a belt felt below a month at least.

However, WWE trying to achieve Ric’s numbers with his daughter has resulted in a lot of meaningless reigns. One of which happened recently at the Money in the Bank Pay per view. Flair beat Becky to win her 9th women’s championship but immediately lost the title to Bailey who cashed in her Money in the Bank Contract.

Charlotte is no doubt the most gifted women in their roster but putting her in this position not only oversaturates her but also hurts the credibility of the rest of the women in the division. Her winning the titles to lose it immediately diminishes the value of the belts. It also makes the WWE look very desperate to inflate the numbers. It would be wise on WWE’s part to let Charlotte reach the peak with organic story telling.

At the moment there are only 3 active wrestlers apart from Charlotte who have a realistic chance of overtaking Ric Flair. John Cena, Triple H and Randy Orton. John Cena last won a world title back in 2017 when he equalled Flair’s title reigns. He hasn’t been in the title picture since dropping the belt. With Cena settling into Hollywood, it is anyone’s guess if and when Cena will win his 17th Championship.

Triple H only wrestles during Mania Season, instead focussing on the business and creative side. He last held a world championship back in 2016. It is unlikely that he will add to his 14 world championship reigns. Orton has slipped in and out of the World Championship Picture but has not added to his world titles since his 13th reign back in 2017. With the schedule Randy wrestles, it is unlikely he will match Triple H, let alone Ric.

It is in this scenario that Charlotte Flair becoming the first 17 time world champion looks very possible. It will be a grand moment if and when she does achieve the monumental feat. The WWE, However need to be careful how they get her there so it doesn’t look like it was handed to her.

Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all.
