Here are the Twitter reactions on Chelsea’s thumping 4-1 victory over Arsenal to clinch the Europa League final.
Chelsea beat Arsenal 4-1 to land the Europa League for the second time in six years. The Gunners controlled initial minutes of the game, but they were truly undone by their horrendous tactics during the second half. Chelsea took advantage of many situations to mark their superiority in the game.
In the first half, Granit Xhaka came the closest when he struck the crossbar. Emerson and Giroud’s shots were saved by Petr Cech to keep the scoreline intact in the first half. The whole situation changed in the second part of the game. The Blues were miles better than Arsenal and deployed an attacking philosophy to clinch the Europa League.
Olivier Giroud diverted the ball inside the back of the net from a tough angle in the 49th minute. The lead was doubled when Pedro slotted the ball from a neat ball from Eden Hazard eleven minutes later. They made it three when Olivier Giroud was brought down by Ainsley Maitland-Niles inside the penalty box. Eden Hazard scored the spot-kick in the 65th minute.
The Gunners pushed hard for a goal to give a glimmer of hope. Alex Iwobi scored a thunderous volley from the edge of the penalty box to cut short the lead to two goals. However, it did not last too long as Eden Hazard scored his second of the night to bring back the Europa League trophy to Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal will be without Europa League football for the next campaign, whilst Chelsea have added another trophy following an okayish start under Maurizio Sarri.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions from the game.
The humiliation is complete. Young lad crying in the stand. Shades of the German massacre at Brazil 2014.

Well, after a season in which Chelsea fans regularly aired their frustrations towards Maurizio Sarri, he has achieved what he was tasked with: a top-four finish (#CFC finished third), a trophy (the first of his managerial career) and a move toward a different brand of football.

#CFC also reached the League Cup final (losing only on pens to City) + have capped off a topsy turvy season with a fine performance vs #AFC (who they’ve denied #UCL football to, too). Sarri and his players have shown a reaction to bad moments which shows promise for next season.

Next spring will mark 10 years since Arsenal progressed through a Champions League knockout tie.

For all the criticism he’s taken this season, Sarri has actually done a very reasonable job by all accounts. 3rd in the league, only lost the League Cup final on penalties vs City and very much deserved Europa League winners here.

At least Unai Emery will be able to get off early after the match and have a nice few days in Transylvania before flying back to London

Is this goodbye for Eden Hazard at @ChelseaFC? 👋
“I think it is a goodbye, but in football you never know.”
Eden Hazard scored twice in potentially his final game for Chelsea to help secure a 4-1 win over Arsenal in the Europa League final in Baku. 🏆
