BBL player salary 2023: How much do BBL players get paid?

The Big Bash League 2022-23 is ongoing in Australia, and it is the premier T20 tournament in Australia. At the halfway stage, the majority of the overseas players have left the competition to play in other T20 leagues going around the world. It is certain that the player’s salary has played a big part in it.

Big Bash League is a very long tournament as compared to the ILT20 League in UAE and SA 20 League in South Africa, whereas the pay scale in those tournaments is way higher than the BBL because of the influence of the IPL owners and other billionaires who have bought the franchises.

This season even some of the Australian players tried to leave BBL in order to play in the other leagues, but the contracted players had a tough time getting the NOCs. Chris Lynn signed a compromised contract with the Adelaide Strikers and Marcus Stoinis will play in ILT20 League on the condition of playing all BBL and domestic fixtures.

Unlike other tournaments, there is no Auction or Draft format in the Big Bash League. In IPL & SA20 League, the teams are decided by auction, whereas draft is the common process in CPL, PSL, ILT20 League, etc. For the very first time, an international draft took place in the BBL this year.

According to Sydney Morning Herald, the salary bands of all the categories were revealed. £192,000 for the platinum category, £147,000 for gold category, £99,000 for silver category and £56,000 for bronze category. However, there is no clear process for the salary of other Australian domestic players.

The BBL franchises directly contact the players, and the official salary is never revealed of the same. There is a fixed salary pool of $1.9 million and $42,000 is the base salary for the players. However, some of the rookie players get less paid than the base salary as well.
