“Bowling 124 kmph": Matthew Hayden Advises David Warner To Smash Ollie Robinson From 1st Ball At Lord's

Even after losing the first Ashes 2023 Test against Australia, English captain Ben Stokes had no regrets about declaring their first innings on Day 1 itself. Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden believes that Australia can also take a leaf out of England’s book regarding how to play Test cricket in the contemporary times.

For instance, he wants opener David Warner to smash English pacer Ollie Robinson from the word go. Hayden, who was himself an aggressive opener during his playing days, had the reputation of smashing bowlers all over the park.

Speaking of Robinson, he was under the spotlight for his actions during the first Ashes Test. He had a verbal interaction with Australian opener Usman Khawaja where veteran James Anderson had to intervene in between. Robinson also made a statement on legendary Australian Ricky Ponting which was not taken well by him.

Hayden took shots at Robinson during his interaction with SENQ Breakfast. He said that Robinson bowls at a speed of 124 km/h but his mouth works way too much. He advised Warner to have a go against him from the very first ball. Warner looked in decent touch in the first game and has the ability to take the game away from the opposition.

“A fast bowler [Ollie Robinson] that is bowling 124 [kmph] nude nuts and he’s got a mouth from the south.

“Someone like him, you can just go, ‘Brother, I’m coming at ya’. Davey [David] Warner can do that, right? He can just say, ‘You’re bowling 120km…’.”

Hayden also wants the Australian batters to have a verbal go at him. Warner has been involved in some verbal exchanges in the past as well. It will be interesting to see if the southpaw will listen to Hayden’s advice or not.

Even though Bazball is a social media-generated term but recently former South African captain AB de Villiers shared his views on the same. He said that it is the way of playing “sensible cricket” in order to get a result out of the Test match.

Did David Warner Get Out To Ollie Robinson At Edgbaston?

Robinson took the wicket of Warner in the second innings during the recently concluded Test at Edgbaston. Warner was looking in a decent touch but Robinson bowled a beautiful delivery. It was a length ball from round the wicket that Warner tried to defend. The ball swung a little and took the edge.

If truth be told, Warner has struggled a bit against the pacer. In 108 balls in Test cricket, he has scored just 61 runs with the help of 10 boundaries. Robinson, meanwhile, took Warner’s priceless wicket thrice in the process.
