Sydney Thunder will take on Brisbane Heat in the league match of the Big Bash League 2022-23 at the Carrara Oval in Gold Coast, Queensland. Both sides are not having a great season, and they would want to do well in this game. Being the first match of this season at the venue, the pitch will be looked at with keen interest.

After losing three matches on the trot, the Sydney Thunder tasted victory in the last match. The duo of Alex Hales and Matt Gilkes ensured an easy win, and they would want to continue their form in this match as well. Daniel Sams and Chris Green bowled some great spells in the last match.

Brisbane Heat have some really good players in their team, but they are not being able to win games for the side. Sam Billings has looked in good rhythm, but the rest of the batters have to fire. The arrival of James Bazley will be a really big boost for the side.

Carrara Oval pitch report

The Carrara Oval in Gold Coast, which is commercially known as the Metricon Stadium will be hosting its first match of the ongoing BBL season. This ground hosted a total of three BBL games last season as well, and the batting was not at all easy here as far as the last season is concerned.

Out of the 3 games played here last season, two of them were won by the chasing teams, where the average 1st innings score was just 139 runs. The pacers generally dominate here as they get a good amount of bounce from the wicket. In the 2nd innings, the spinners may also play a big role. The shorter boundaries may aid the batters.

Overall a total of 15 T20 matches are played here with an average 1st innings score of 155 runs. The initial overs are going to be the best to score runs due to field restrictions as hitting boundaries has not been easy here. Both teams may opt to bowl upon winning the toss as batting may become easy under lights.
