Docklands Stadium Melbourne pitch report: Docklands Stadium pitch report REN vs THU BBL 12 match

Melbourne Renegades will take on Sydney Thunder in the league match of the Big Bash League 2022-23 season. This is the first match of this season at the Docklands Stadium, and the pitch will be looked at with keen interest.

Melbourne Renegades started the tournament on a winning note, and they would want to continue in this match as well. The bowling of the side is strong, and they will again rely on them in this match. Even the batting department looks solid this time around.

Sydney Thunder won their first match, but they were put to shame by Adelaide Strikers in the last game, where they registered the lowest score in the history of T20 cricket. They would want to make a comeback in this game.

Docklands Stadium Melbourne pitch report

The Dockland Stadium in Melbourne is the only closed stadium in Australia, and it serves as the home ground to Melbourne Renegades in the BBL. Because of the lockdown in Perth last season, this stadium got to host 11 games last season including the final.

Out of 11 games played here last season, 8 of them were won by the teams batting first, which proves that chasing has not been easy here. The average 1st innings score here was 174 runs i.e. runs were easy to come in the initial overs, but the pitch went slower as the game progressed.

The spinners are going to play a key role here as the pitch gets a little slower in the 2nd innings, and one side of the boundary is small as well. Melbourne Renegades management said during the draft that they have picked Mujeeb ur Rahman and Akeal Hosein to take advantage of the conditions at the Docklands. This is a ground where batting first is the safe bet after winning the toss.
