GT New Jersey 2023: Why Are Gujarat Titans Wearing Pink Jersey Today?

Gujarat Titans will become the third Indian Premier League 2023 franchise to don a separate jersey than the usual one in one of their home matches. In doing so, the defending champions will join Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals as far as wearing two jerseys in their home matches are concerned.

In what has become a custom now, RCB have been wearing the green jersey in one of their afternoon home matches of the season since 2011 to raise awareness for a greener and sustainable planet. DC, on the other hand, have been wearing a rainbow jersey since 2020.

GT, who generally wear a grey-colored jersey, will be seen playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in a lavender (not pink, to be precise) jersey tonight.

The development was confirmed across the social media pages of the franchise on Saturday. Captain Hardik Pandya, vice-captain Rashid Khan, batter Shubman Gill and pacers Alzarri Joseph and Shivam Mavi were wearing a lavender jersey in the official announcement.

It is worth mentioning that the same is being done to raise awareness about cancer. While it remains unclear if it is a one-season affair or whether Titans will be wearing a lavender jersey in the last home league match of all the subsequent seasons, such initiatives are always successful in spreading the concerned message.

“By wearing lavender, Gujarat Titans want to support the fight against cancer. Through this initiative, we aim to raise awareness about the fight against cancer, general health and well-being,” Pandya said in a separate video posted across the social media account of the franchise.

In what is going to be their penultimate league match of the season, it will be followed by them facing Royal Challengers at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. Although at the top of the points table, Gujarat are yet to officially book an IPL 2023 playoffs berth.
