The ongoing 16th season of the Indian Premier League has witnessed only three centuries in spite of more than half the number of matches already being played. The word “only” has been used above primarily because of the fact that no IPL season wholly conducted in India has witnessed less than four centuries till now.

Hence, going by historical evidence, it would be safe to conclude that one can expect more individual batting firepower to be put on display in IPL 2023. The fact that no top-notch name has been able to achieve this personal milestone paves way for a lot of scope for established batters to work wonders for their franchises.
Playing his maiden season of the IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Harry Brook had scored the first century of the season. Kolkata Knight Riders batter Venkatesh Iyer completed a century less than 48 hours after Brook’s milestone. It was as recent as the day before yesterday that Rajasthan Royals batter Yashasvi Jaiswal became the third batter to touch the three-figure mark in IPL 2023.
Interestingly, all these batters scored an IPL century for the first time in their respective careers. While two of these innings have been played against Mumbai Indians, Knight Riders have been on the giving and receiving end once each. Known for its high-scoring nature in the shortest format since time immemorial, two out of these three innings have come at the Wankhede Stadium.
Speaking of the 15th season of the IPL played entirely in the country but without following the usual home/away format, it had comprised a record number of centuries (8) hit by four different batters.
