"Oh What's happened there": Nic Maddinson involved in Steve Smith-like extraordinary zing bails incident during Heat vs Renegades BBL 12 match

Melbourne Renegades and Brisbane Heat are up against each other in the league match of the Big Bash League 2022-23 at the Cazaly’s Oval in Cairns. This was the first match of the side for both teams, and Nic Maddinson was involved in an extraordinary dismissal during the game.

The Renegades went off to a flying start when the opening duo of Maddinson and Sam Harper smashed just 50 overs in 4 overs. They lost the plot in the middle overs when Harper, Aaron Finch, Jon Wells and Jake Fraser-McGurk got in quick succession. Andre Russell and Maddinson stood together for the side.

Maddinson scored 87 runs in just 49 balls at a S/R of 177.55, whereas Russell scored 35 runs in 28 balls. This is a good batting track, and it will be interesting to see the run-chase of the Brisbane Heat as they also have some power-packed players in their ranks.

Nic Maddinson involved in Steve Smith-like extraordinary zing bails incident

Something extraordinary happened in the 9th over of the Melbourne Renegades innings. On the 2nd ball of the over, Maddison’s captain Nic Maddinson pulled the ball and took a single off it. However, the bails went off the groove, and Maddinson was adjudged hit wicket out, and he started walking as well.

However, in the replays, it was evident that Maddinson was even not close to the wickets, and the bails went off on their own. It is still unclear how the bails came off, but the zing bails were lighting. After the replays, Maddinson was adjudged not out for the same. Zing bails are comparatively heavier than conventional wooden bails

A similar kind of incident happened during the BBL 2019-20 as well. In a match between Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars, Haris Rauf bowled a bounce to Steve Smith, and Smith ducked for the same. However, to everyone’s surprise, the zing bails fall down on their own. Smith was confident that he was not out and same was the case.
