Steve Smith BBL: When will Smith join Sydney Sixers for Big Bash League 2022-23 season?

Australian test vice-captain Steve Smith will be back playing in Magenta for the Sydney Sixers in the ongoing BBL 12 season. The South African ODI series got cancelled, and it allowed the Australian ace batter to again play in the tournament.

The Big Bash League always interferes with the Australian international calendar, and that’s why the majority of the star players stay away from the tournament. However, the players like Steve Smith, David Warner, Cameron Green, etc have signed their BBL contracts.

Smith has played 24 BBL games so far scoring 619 runs at 32.58 with the help of five half-centuries. He last played in BBL 09, where he scored 120 runs in 4 innings at a brilliant S/R of 151.90. It is great for the tournament that players like Warner and Smith will be playing in the tournament this time around.

Steve Smith will be playing for the Sydney Sixers this season, and the club has announced the date from which he will be available. Smith has himself confirmed that he will be back playing for the Sixers at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 15th January against Perth Scorchers.

The Sixers and Scorchers are very close rivals, and they met each other in the final of the last season as well. It will be great for the Sixers to have Smith back for the latter half of the campaign. Smith last played in the BBL 09 for the Sixers, he was also a part of the team in the initial three seasons of the tournament.

Smith wanted to play in the BBL last season as well for the Sixers, and the last season was hampered a lot by Covid. Sydney Sixers tried their best to register Smith, but it was not possible. Smith was quite disappointed about the incident and was quite vocal as well about the same.
