Veteran Sydney Sixers all-rounder Daniel Christian didn’t hesitate from reminding Perth Scorchers batter Stephen Eskinazi about the non-striker run-out rule during the recently concluded Big Bash League 2022-23 Match 43 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

In what was a crunch situation of the match with Scorchers needing 17 runs off eight deliveries to chase down a mediocre 152-run target, Christian noticed Eskinazi gaining an unfair advantage by taking a start too early.
Christian, who didn’t bowl on that particular occasion, only warned Eskinazi when he had an opportunity of dismissing him. “That’s your warning, mate. That’s your warning,” Christian was heard on the stump mic.
It is noteworthy that warning a batter isn’t a prerequisite for affecting a run-out at the non-striker’s end. However, some players do the same in a bid to not ruffle feathers among some in the cricketing fraternity around the world. Ideally, no bowler should hang back from running out a non-striker in similar cases for only dismissals will teach batters a much-needed lesson.

For the unversed, a similar incident had occurred in the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka on Tuesday when India captain Rohit Sharma withdrew an appeal to dismiss his Sri Lankan counterpart in Dasun Shanaka.
Speaking about BBL 12, Melbourne Stars captain Adam Zampa had tried the same but erred in executing a run-out at the non-striker’s end. Surprisingly, Zampa didn’t have the backing of his head coach David Hussey, who spoke about withdrawing the appeal had Zampa dismissed Thomas Rogers in the Melbourne derby at the Melbourne Cricket Ground earlier this month.
While the BBL is yet to witness a batter getting out in this manner, Chris Morris and Peter Siddle have also warned batters regarding the same in the past.
