"Watch the ball and hit it as far as I can": Josh Brown reveals pretty simple batting strategy after maiden BBL 50 vs Sydney Sixers

Brisbane Heat opening batter Josh Brown has become the talk of the town after scoring a hard-hitting 19-ball half-century in the ongoing 25th Big Bash League 2022-23 league match against Sydney Sixers at The Gabba.

Brown, 29, brought up the joint sixth-fastest half-century in the history of the tournament on the back of scoring 62 (23) with the help of four fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 269.56. Playing only his second T20 in a representative career which started as recent as last month, an unknown commodity in Brown setting the stage on fire saw him becoming an instant source of amazement.

Other than just finding the fence 10 times before getting out right after the powerplay, the pinnacle of the right-handed batter’s innings lied in him smoking proper massive sixes. Clean striking via superb hand-eye coordination brought the best out of Brown making him an enthralling prospect for the remainder of the season.

Speaking to 7 Cricket right after his dismissal, Brown refrained from intellectualizing his thought-process regarding playing the big shots. Not only a BBL novice, an innocent Brown also appeared to be a rookie with respect to participating in media interviews.

“Just watch the ball and hit it as far as I can really. That was always my plan. Pretty simple,” Brown told 7 Cricket during the first innings.

Considering how Heat struggled across divisions in the season until tonight, Brown’s presence was perhaps a much-needed morale-booster for them. Coming on the back of no reputation or expectation per se, Brown excelled during successfully playing his natural game whilst replacing out-of-form opener Max Bryant.

Definitely aided by fellow rookie batter Nathan McSweeney scoring 84 (51) including eight fours and three sixes, the duo played titular roles in powering Brisbane to 224/5 in 20 overs. In what is the fifth-highest innings total in the BBL, it is the highest-ever for BH.
