Antonio Conte stirred up another controversy by benching David Luiz for the game against Manchester United. Chelsea ran out the winners thanks to a solitary goal from Alvaro Morata.
Despite such a significant result, Luiz became the biggest talking point after the showdown at the Bridge. Conte counted the 30-year-old among the best ball-playing centre-halves in April. Their relationship has strayed a long way off course since then.
The Brazilian is no longer a guaranteed starter. Spanish outlet Diario Gol claims that David Luiz would prefer a move to Barcelona as soon as possible.

He also believes that he’ll have a greater chance of winning the Champions League with Barcelona than with the Blues. Sources close to the player told Diario Gol “It’s better to be in Barcelona than to be a substitute in London.”
It all began after the mauling Chelsea suffered at the hands of Roma. After a 3-0 loss at Stadio Olimpico, Luiz questioned his manager’s tactics.
This incident reportedly left Conte furious. Subsequently, the Italian benched David Luiz against Manchester United. This row has led to Luiz seeking pastures anew for next season.
Both Luiz and Conte are headstrong personalities. It is highly unlikely that Luiz will have a way back into the first eleven, especially after a solid performance from Andres Christensen, his replacement on the weekend.
Luiz is a huge figure in the Chelsea dressing room, Conte will need to handle this situation with utmost care and respect to maintain harmony at the club.
