Death Stranding giveaway crashes Epic Games Store and Fortnite for PC players

While the Epic Games Store giveaway was meant to sweeten the Holiday deals, it seems to have backfired a bit. The announcement of Death Stranding being the Christmas giveaway brought in so many users that it broke the Epic Games Store and consequently, Fortnite. Users began reporting that couldn’t log in to their accounts today, and the developers have responded.

Fortnite user login fixed after two hours as Death Stranding giveaway breaks Epic Games Store

A few hours ago, the official Fortnite Status Twitter account acknowledged the login issue and stated that they were working on it. At the time of writing, the issue has been resolved and players can log in to the game. However, it seems that the Death Stranding listing has changed. Earlier, the free giveaway section stated that the Director’s Cut of the game was on offer, which has now changed.

If players check the front page of the Epic Games Store, it redirects to the standard edition of Death Stranding. If players manually navigate to the Director’s Cut listing, the store will ask them to pay for it. However, those early to the giveaway are claiming that they managed to claim the Director’s Cut. Whether or not Epic Games decides to change the copies to the standard version remains to be seen.

This isn’t the first time the Epic Games Store has incorrectly listed a product. Earlier this year, FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition was listed for 4 Rupees in India, leading to thousands of users grabbing the deal. This was later corrected, but Epic Games honored the purchase and let users keep their copy. As far as Death Stranding’s Director’s Cut is concerned, fans will have to wait and see if the claimed copies get downgraded, or the Director’s Cut is made available for all.
