DeMarcus Cousins on the ‘f**ked up’ circumstances that separated him from Anthony Davis

DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis shared a very enviable partnership in New Orleans, one that was cut short last season when Boogie Cousins suffered that Achilles injury.

Cousins suffered that Achilles injury in January, when the Pelicans took on the Rockets. The injury changed Cousins’ fate, as not a lot of franchises were interested in securing his signature.

Cousins chose to embrace free agency but not a lot of teams wanted to recruit him, as they were not sure about his recovery  from that Achilles injury.

The Warriors man went onto reveal in an interview with Shams Charania how the circumstances in which he had to leave the Pelicans were ‘f**ked up’.

Cousins admitted that while AD and he wanted to continue together, the Pelicans management had other things in mind.

He conceded that AD and he talk about their pairing all the time and how things could have been different if Cousins was allowed to stay on.

“I think about our pairing all the time,” Cousins said in the interview.

“Me and AD talk about it. It’s f–ked up. It could’ve been something great, something special, but other people had different things in mind. That’s out of our control, and you never know what’ll happen later on down the line.” he added.

Cousins was deeply affected by how other teams took next to no interest in securing his services during the summer.

He was in talks with teams other than the Warriors, but a lot of them shut him down completely, as they did not want to gamble with Cousins’ Achilles injury.

Warriors were ready to gamble and from what we have seen in the last two games, the gamble seems to be paying off.

“The people I reached out to … man, the teams I was talking to, and how they slammed the phone in my face. They all slammed the door shut on me. I wish I could share those conversations. But it’s done with. I reached out to teams with the same offer as Golden State, just to see.” Cousins said.

A $5.3 million was what Cousins had to ultimately settle for.

However, Marc Stein of the New York Times had revealed that the Pelicans had in fact offered him a 2 year deal worth $40 million.

The AD-Boogie partnership was a scary one, but it was only good enough for 6th place until Boogie was fit.

Yes, the duo could have turned it on during the playoffs, but then we will never know.
