Dota 2 Team update: Tobias “Tobi” Buchner parts ways with Viking.gg after for 14+ months. Viking.gg have let go of their off-lane player Tobi. His spot will most likely be taken by KeZhu, who has been playing with Viking.gg in the DPC season 1.
Viking.gg have had an impressive run in the last year-and-a-half, with multiple podium finished and many top spots. So, it is quite a surprise to hear the news that their off-lane player will be departing. Austrian Tobias ‘Tobi’ Buchner has decided to leave the EU squad. He will mostly be replaced by KeZhu, who was been playing with the stack for almost a month now.
The organization made the official announcement late last night. Tobi has been playing the off-lane role for Viking.gg for almost 14 months, and he has produced some amazing performances. A lot of Viking.gg’s fans will surely be disappointed with the news.
Melchior “Seleri” Hillenkamp, who is the captain of Viking.gg’s Dota 2 roster, posted a farewell message to his former off laner. The two have been playing together since the start of the organization and surely have a good bond, as is evident from the tweet below.
I will never forget the year+ we spend together.
We achieved more than most people would have expected from us.I hope Tobi will find anything that he will strive for!
Thanks for playing with me mathematician! ♥️ https://t.co/4ZnkiyzRfV— Melchior Hillenkamp (@Seleri4096) February 25, 2021
Viking.gg’s impressive run
Throughout 2020, Viking.gg won 10 tournaments, including the Dota Summit 13 in November, taking down 2-time TI winners OG. They defeated Team Liquid in the finals of the tournament to claim the victory. They were always considered the underdogs, but after putting up some impressive wins in the last year, they are now seen as the dark horse in the DPC. However, they have been unable to hold onto their top division spot, and they will be relegated to the lower division for the next season of the DPC.
They have even been playing with KeZhu in the ongoing Snow Sweet Snow tournament.
