New Real Madrid recruit Eden Hazard has won the Europa Player of the season award. The Belgian led Chelsea to a Europa League title last season when they beat local rivals Arsenal in the final. This ensured Chelsea’s qualification to the Champions League.

He is now the third player to win the award and the third consecutive player to come from the winning side. The award was last clinched by Barcelona’s Antoine Griezmann who played for Atletico Madrid in the 2017/18 season. Manchester United’s Paul Pogba was the first recipient of the award. He won it for the 2016/17 season when The Red Devils won the Europa League.
Olivier Giroud and Luka Jovic were phenomenal for their teams last season. Giroud scored 11 goals and 4 assists for the Blues. Jovic on the other hand was vital to Eintracht Frankfurt’s road to the semi-final, scoring 10 goals for his side.
Hazard on the other hand, only scored twice, with both his goals coming in the final against Arsenal. However, he was unplayable on the night as he destroyed the Gunner’s defence. That match turned out to be his last for the Blues and what a way it was to say farewell to the club that has made him the player he is today.
The Belgian will hope to replicate his form for his new club, Real Madrid, when he returns from injury.
