Real Madrid have finally struck a deal with Chelsea to land Eden Hazard.
Eden Hazard is expected to join Real Madrid in the forthcoming days. The fee is believed to be in a range of 88.2 million plus add-ons, the fee which the Los Blancos wanted to pay despite Chelsea’s adamance.
There were various contracting reports stating that Real Madrid’s chief executive Jose Angel Sanchez flew back to Madrid after the failure to come to a conclusion with Chelsea. Albeit those reports, Eden Hazard will become the third signing of Real Madrid in the next few days. The two clubs are preparing contracts to be signed now, according to Guardian.
After seven successful years, Hazard is expected to leave the club. He won the Europa League twice, Premier League twice, FA Cup, and League Cup once. Additionally, he was named as the PFA Young Player of the Year and PFA Player of the Year once during his joy-filled career at Stamford Bridge. He scored 110 and assisted 92 in 352 appearances during his seven-year stint with the club.
Manager Maurizio Sarri said that the club needs to respect Eden Hazard’s decision following the European triumph at Baku.
“As you know, Hazard is a wonderful player, but you have to spend two or three months to understand him as a man,” he said. “But when you are able to understand him as a man, he’s a wonderful man. I knew Eden wanted to leave. But I wanted to respect his decision.”
Hazard has only one year contract left in his deal. The former Lille forward was asked if he would feature for any other club in England at Baku. He immediately responded: “No chance, no chance. I am a Blue. It means a lot to me. I cannot play for another club in this country.”
The 28-year-old will follow Eder Militao and Luka Jovic to Santiago Bernabeu. Militao was signed for £44 million, whilst Jovic was signed for £57 million. Chelsea signed Christian Pulisic and allowed him to spend rest of the season with Borussia Dortmund on loan. He will pair up his new teammates in the preseason.
