January Transfer Window: Tottenham’s Interest in Eder Militao Confirmed By Tim Vickery

Eder Militao to Man Utd: Manchester United is reportedly leading the race to sign the Brazilian defender.

Manchester United have returned to winning ways under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the side scoring 8 goals in the last two league games.

The side scored five goals in the game against Cardiff City, which was the first time Manchester United score five league goals since Sir Alex’s farewell match.

However, defence remains trouble for the Old Trafford side. Manchester United failed to keep a clean sheet in both the games under Solskjaer, and David de Gea, who won the Golden Glove last season, has only managed to keep goals at bay in two league games so far.

Justifiably, the club has now been linked with a number of defenders, and the latest to add to the list is Brazilian Eder Militao.

Eder Militao to United:

The defender currently plays for Portuguese side FC Porto. At the beginning of the season, Manchester United signed Diogo Dalot from the side, who has been impressive in the limited appearances he made so far.

Militao has attracted significant interests from European sides after some stellar performances for Porto this season.

Barcelona, Roma, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City have all been credited with an interest in the defender. However, Manchester United are understood to be favourites to sign Militao.

English media outlet Express now reports that Liverpool have also entered the race to sign the defender. Liverpool are currently at the top of the table in the Premier League, and are the only unbeaten side in England’s top flight at the moment.

The release clause for the defender, according to report, currently stands at £42.5m. The defender signed for FC Porto at the beginning of this season, but will be free to negotiate a deal with other clubs if they meet the current release clause.

He received his first international call-up in September, and played full 90 minutes against El Salvador.

What next?

Manchester United will return to action in the Premier League on Sunday as they take on Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth.
